So, I haven't updated this recently, figured I should.
I'll start with a test that was run over the last few days. It's called a Contrast Study. Basically the injected barium through his NG tube (the one in his nose that goes directly into his stomach). Then they will take several x-rays to follow the barium through his digestive tract to see where is goes and if it stops anywhere to give us an idea what is going on in his bowels.
Over the course of three days, he had 10+ x-rays done to show the progress of the dye.
Towards the end of the first day, we were told that if he passes it all, it's good things and they would start a secondary test by doing an Enema injection to get a closer look at the bottom end because as the barium travels through the system it gets thinner so they don't always get a clear picture at the end of the test.
IF it doesn't pass through, then, they'll be booking OR time and he'll have to have another surgery.
It moved fairly quickly for the firs few x-rays and then things slowed down, but never really stopped...which is good, but not good enough and the results are in weren't what any of us wanted to hear...there was still a significant amount of barium in Ethan's system on Wednesday at 1:00pm so they decided to abandon the enema test because it would have been days before the barium would pass and Ethan can't wait in pain anymore so he will undergo another surgery this Friday.
As parents, it's very hard to hear that he'll need ANOTHER surgery, but after giving it some thought, it is clearly best for him.
It allows the surgeon the opportunity to go in and fix the problem, as well as any other problems he finds. (A hernia as an example).
We have mixed emotions here, it's quite sad, but we know it's for the best.
Thanks for following us again. And we know you all care so much!
